Highlighting to Type Over Lesson

Imagine you are using Control right arrow to check the contents of a paragraph and you hear a word that you want to change.  Simply press and hold down both the Control and Shift keys and hit the right arrow one time.  The word is now highlighted.  Type a new word followed by a space.  When you highlight a word, unless there is something like a period or comma, the space after the word also gets highlighted.  If there is a period, comma, semi-colon or other punctuation after the word, do not space--highlighting does not highlight the punctuation, if you hit the right arrow only one time.  Do the following to work on this skill.

1.  Type "A big blue dog." (without the quotes)
2.  Hit the Home key to move to the beginning of the line.
3.  Press and hold down the Control key and hit the right arrow key until you hear "blue."
4.  Press and hold down both the Control and Shift keys and hit the right arrow key one time.
5.  Type the word "brown" (without the quotes) followed by a space.
6.  Hit the Home key to move to the beginning of the line.
7.  Press and hold down the Control key and hit the right arrow key repeatedly to move through the sentence.  You should hear "A big brown dog."
8.  Hit the End key to move to the end of the line.
9.  Hit the Enter key one time to go to a new line.
10.  Type "The sky is falling." (without the quotes)
11.  Hit the Home key to move to the beginning of the line.
12.  Press and hold down the Control key and hit the right arrow key until you hear the word "falling."
13.  Press and hold down both the Control and Shift keys and hit the right arrow one time.  The word "falling" is highlighted but the period is not.
14.  Type the word "blue" (without the quotes)
15.  Hit the Home key to move to the beginning of the line.
16.  Press and hold down the Control key and hit the right arrow repeatedly to move through the sentence.  You should hear "The sky is blue."
17.  Make up some of your own sentences and practice this skill.
