JAWS Reading Commands for basic text in a word processor, or on a web page

Insert up arrow reads the line you are on, in both Word and Excel.

Control Down Arrow (key combination) reads down one paragraph--you can use this to quickly move down your document, skipping from paragraph to paragraph, until you find the text you want to read.

Control Up Arrow (key combination) reads up one paragraph--you can use this to quickly move up your document, skipping from paragraph to paragraph, until you find the text you want to read.

Control Right Arrow (key combination) moves you forward through your text, one word at a time.

Control Left Arrow (key combination) moves you backward through your text, one word at a time.

Right Arrow moves you forward through your text, one letter at a time.

Left Arrow move you backward through your text, one letter at a time.

Word and spelling--if you need a word repeated, press the Insert 5 (key combination) on the numeric keypad, and the word will be pronunced. If you need to have this word spelled, press and hold down the Insert key and tap the 5 key two times quickly. Remember to use the Insert 5 key combination one more time to go out of spelling mode.

The 5 key on the numeric keypad (with the keypad turned off) tells you the letter you are on. If you tap it two times quickly, it gives the phonetic pronunciation of that letter. Remember to tap the 5 key one more time to go back to letter pronunciation mode.
