ISU Bosma Weekend Assistive Technology Weekend

PLACE:  7225 Woodland Drive (enter on 73rd Street to parking lot.  Turn right after entering parking lot.  Front door sets at angle near retention pond area.

NOTE:  Students “send their tactile graphics project to me [Frances Mary] (in envelopes provided) for that purpose at the Weekend Workshop.  The directions say the project can’t be any bigger than an 11-1/2 x 11 piece of paper (size of a typical piece of braille paper)…” Robin will be supplying the envelopes for Bill to hand out.

9:00-9:15 - Introduction:   Bill Powell

10:00-12:00 – Greg Blackman (Eye Can See) Magnification devices.

12:00-12:30 – Lunch Break

12:35-1:15 --  Cover the websites www.brlsts.com and www.brlsts.us and how to use these with students.

1:15-2:30 – Cover AT team meeting approach—supply several case studies—use http://brlsts.com/AT%20Assessment%20Checklist.html checklist in teams of two (20 min), then present recommendations to class.  Discuss.

2:45-4:00

•iPhone/iPad (I have several lab units and I know some of the students have their own) including using Google Maps for mobility needs.

•Android Accessibility (many of our current students are coming in with Android devices) including using Google Maps for mobility needs.

•Samsung DEX (smart phone to computer monitor or smart TV for full Android OS accessible solution)

•Windows 10 with built in Narrator screen reader, magnification, inversion, and Cortana (voice command).

•Tour lighting lab in Rehab Center.

•Demonstration of how to use and www.nlsbard.loc.gov website to add books to a list, then instantly download the book(s) from the "Wish List" (on BARD Mobile) onto an iPhone, iPad, Android, notetaker, Victor Reader Stream

•Demonstration of Bookshare (including Wish List) website (GoRead Go To Read Voice Dream Reader) apps

•Learning Ally text books and app

10:00-10:15 – Break

10:15-11:30 

•ZoomText Fusion

•K-NFB Reader (iPod, Android, Windows 10)

•Smart TV (web accessibility/screen reader)—do not have TV at our disposal, but can share findings from Bosma AT current research in this area.

•Tour of adapted apartment setup for daily living needs per assistive tech
