General Word Key Commands for Text Alignment, Fonts and Reading

Control n to create a new document.
Control e to center a line.
Control l to left align line.
Control r to right align the line.
Control 2 to double space lines.
Control 1 to single space lines.
Control b to turn on bold.
Control b to  turn off bold.
Control i to turn on italics.
Control i to turn off italics.
Control u to turn on underline.
Control u to turn off underline.
Press and holds control key and taps the right bracket key to increase font size.
Press and hold control key and taps the left bracket key to decrease font size.
Press control shift right arrow to highlight one word to the right.
Press control shift left arrow to highlight one word to the left.
You can highlight plain text and use the above key commands to format and change fonts, if you decide to alter text after you have typed the document.

FONT COMMANDS

1. Press control d.

2. Type in the name of the font you want, or down arrow to hear the list.

3. Tab one time to get to the bold, italics, underline area, arrow to the selection you want.

4. Tap tab one time, and arrow to the size you want.

5. Tap tab one time, then down arrow until you hear the color you want, then tap enter one time.

6. Tap tab one time, then down arrow to select the underline style you want, then tap tab one time.

7. Down arrow through the underline color you want, and tap enter one time.

8. Tab through the "Effects" section (there are eleven items), tapping the space bar one time on each item that you want.

9. Tap to the "OK" button and press either the space bar or the enter key.

READING COMMANDS

Right arrow reads one letter to the right
Left arrow reads one letter to the left
Control right arrow reads one word to the right
Control left arrow reads one word to the left
Control down arrow reads one paragraph down
Control up arrow reads one paragraph up
Insert up arrow reads the line you are on
Insert down arrow reads from where you are to the end of the file, in JAWS
The number 5 on the numeric keypad reads the letter; tapped twice it reads the phonetic pronunciation for the letter, in JAWS
The insert (0) on the numeric keypad, and the 5 key says the word you are on.  Hold the insert down and tap the 5 one time to read the word, or tap the 5 two times to spell the word—remember to tap the 5 one more time to go back to the “read the word” mode.  Also, remember to keep the insert key pressed down while you are tapping the 5 key.
